Sheraton Redding Hotel at the Sundial Bridge

The Turtle Bay Exploration Park was in search of a sustainable funding channel. The Board of Trustees ultimately decided that a hotel on the museum’s property would be a key to financial independence. We were tasked with designing a resort-style property that would become Redding’s first four-star hotel – The Sheraton Redding Hotel at the SunDial Bridge. In keeping with Turtle Bay’s mission to support environmental stewardship, we designed the entire property to LEED certification. The resulting 130 room hotel, complete with 4,000 square foot ballroom and full service restaurant, was designed with extreme consideration and sensitivity. Over the course of 10 years and multiple revisions, the vision was finally realized and it is now a treasured part of the museum property.

The property is situated within steps of the famous Sundial Bridge. Trilogy masterfully reconfigured an existing site for adaptive reuse of the existing footprint. This allows for an elevated resort-style experience, in walking proximity to the Sundial Bridge and Turtle Bay Exploration Park, without disturbing or displacing the natural landscape around the property.

The Challenge

The project was highly visible due to the association with the museum. We worked diligently and collaboratively with both the client and the community at large to reduce the impact as much as possible. We were tasked with adaptive reuse of an existing industrial footprint, so as not to add to the disruption of the surrounding community and wild areas.
