Mobile Technology
Learning Wall
Over the years since it was founded in 1990, Trilogy has had opportunities to design not only buildings, but custom furniture designed specifically for those buildings. But it wasn’t until 2011 when we were designing a technology wall for the Redding School of the Arts that we realized there might be a need for a portable technology wall for educational use. Shortly after RSA was completed, a school in Massachusetts approached us with an interesting request – could we design a portable “tech” wall for use as for video conferencing within their classrooms? They were looking for a wall would could also double as a partition of sorts, to create smaller break-out areas within the larger classroom. Our design was successful, and is still in use today.
But we learned some important lessons during that initial design process. There are a few commercially available mobile smart board units on the market today, but they are hardly designed for the look of a 21st century classroom. We decided to design our own product, and working with an outside fabricator, we created the technology wall shown here, for a school in New Jersey. It the success of this product, we continue to look for ways where our furniture designs can reach a larger educational audience.
