Affordability with Dignity

Hartford Place HUD 811 Housing

Located in Chico, California, this 21-unit transitional living facility provided us with an opportunity to provide much needed housing opportunities for people who wish to live independently but have very limited opportunities to do so within traditional housing choices.

“Most important, Section 811 is the only federal program dedicated to addressing the housing crisis facing millions of extremely low-income people with significant and long-term disabilities who also need access to services and supports to live successfully in the community.”

-Excerpt from a 2009 article in National Council Magazine, written by Ann O’hara and Andrew Sperling-

For us, this project is a great reminder that there can be a great deal of satisfaction gained from a design that – despite severe government funding limitations – provides more than basic shelter to a segment of our population that has traditionally been mostly ignored.
